What is Water-resistant?
Water-resistant phones are slowly but surely becoming the norm. Samsung has had phone models that could withstand being submerged in water for a few minutes for a few years now, and other Android manufacturers have followed suit. Even Apple has gotten in on the action, with its iPhone 7 and newer models all having some degree of water resistance. But what about the iPhone SE (2022)? Is the new SE waterproof like its more expensive siblings?
All About iPhone SE
The iPhone SE was first released in 2016 as a budget-friendly alternative to the then-flagship iPhone 6s. It was released again in 2020 with updated internals but the same basic design. And now, there are rumors that Apple is working on a third-generation iPhone SE that could be released as early as 2022.
One of the most notable aspects of the iPhone SE is its water resistance. The 2016 model was not officially marketed as being waterproof, but it had an IP67 rating, meaning it could be submerged in up to 1 meter (3.3 feet) of water for up to 30 minutes without any damage. The 2020 model kept the same rating, and it’s likely that the 2022 model will as well.
So, is the Apple iPhone SE (2022) waterproof? Based on the history of the iPhone SE, it’s very likely that it will be at least water resistant, if not fully waterproof.
The Design of the iPhone SE (2022)
Although the iPhone SE (2022) hasn’t been released yet, we can take a look at its design to answer this question. The phone is expected to have a glass front and back, with an aluminum frame in between. All of this points to the phone not being waterproof, as glass and aluminum aren’t waterproof materials.
So, it’s unlikely that the iPhone SE (2022) will be waterproof. However, we’ll have to wait until the phone is released to know for sure.

We don’t have any official word from Apple yet, but looks like the iPhone SE (2022) will come with a 5.4-inch display. This is smaller than the 6.1-inch display on the current iPhone 12, but it’s the same size as the original iPhone SE from 2016. The smaller size should make the new iPhone SE (2022) easier to hold and use with one hand, and it should also be more pocketable.
